World Breastfeeding Week

Golden drops - gift from a mom to the baby

From August 1st – 7th, 2018 we are recognizing, honouring and normalizing breastfeeding. We’re focusing on the importance of breastfeeding, and the importance of supporting moms who breastfeed.

We need encouragement from spouses, our families, our friends, and from strangers. We like to know that efforts to nurse are respected and appreciated.

Benefits of breastfeeding for the baby
Breast milk contains the right amount of protein, sugar, fat and most vitamins to help babies develop
Breast milk has vital antibodies that help protect babies from many illnesses. and an immunity boost.
Reduces rates of asthma and allergies in new borns
Lesser prone to diarrhoea, ear infections and respiratory illness
Breastfeeding helps in losing post-pregnancy weight gain
Lowers your risk of breast cancer and ovarian cancer in mothers
Breastfeeding may help to lose weight after child birth.
Breastfeeding can save families formula-related expenses.

The logo features the WBW-SDGs Campaign 'triad' of two adults and an infant, which reinforces the importance of working together to protect, promote and support breastfeeding. Branches, leaves and sprouts represent growth and development. The line extending from the triad and sprouting into leaves are the links between breastfeeding and nutrition, food security and poverty reduction. This reflects the #WBW2018 slogan Breastfeeding: Foundation of Life.
