Crippling poliomyelitis- A deadly disease
Polio is an infectious viral disease which affects mainly in children. The virus is easily transmitted through contaminated food and water where it can invade the nervous system and leads to paralysis. Among the paralyzed some die when breathing muscles become immobilized.
Polio cases have drastically decreased by over 99 %.Only four countries, Afghanistan, India, Nigeria, and Pakistan; have never interrupted circulation of the wild poliovirus, although transmission is now limited to small areas.
Polio can be prevented with the vaccine. There are two types of vaccine that can prevent polio. Oral polio vaccine (OPV) is used in almost all countries. Inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) is the only polio vaccine that has been given in the United States since 2000.
Did you know that?
One of the best ways to protect your children is to make sure they have all of their vaccinations.CDC recommends that children get four doses of polio vaccine. They should get one dose at each of the following ages:
2 months old
4 months old
6 through 18 months old
4 through 6 years old
Advances in medical science can protect your child against from more diseases. Polio is one of the best examples for the greater impact of Immunizations in the form of Vaccination which can save your child’s life.
Vaccines will involve some discomfort and may cause pain, redness, or tenderness at the site of injection. Some vaccine-preventable diseases can result in prolonged disabilities.
Some diseases of today will no longer be around if we continue vaccinating completely. According to the WHO, approximately 90 to 95% of people get “protection” from the vaccine. Combination products containing IPV along with other protective antigens should become part of routine childhood immunizations around the world.
Join us and make world Polio free. Assure the future generations to get protected from this epidemic disease.
